Check My SSN
The last time I had trouble getting credit the first thing I thought to myself was, “It’s time to check my ssn.” I always check my ssn immediately after I get turned down for anything because there is just so much identity theft that goes on these days. After all, you just don’t know if the company you applied for credit with is just very strict about handing out credit or if someone actually made off without your identity when you weren’t looking.
When I check my ssn, the first thing I do is check my credit report. If someone has bad accounts out in my name, the credit report is one of the first places it will show up. But I don’t stop there when I’m making sure my identity is intact. After checking my credit report I then check my ssn through an online service. Running my social security number through the website will turn up any criminal history if someone has been using my name and committing crimes while using my identity. It will also show a wider address history and any other names of people who might have been using my social security number with their name. I even check my ssn online regularly anyway, regardless of whether or not I’ve been turned down for credit. You can never be too careful with your identity these days.
Whenever I check my ssn, I feel much more secure knowing that I’m the only one using my name and social security number. Even though I’m a naturally careful person, there are so many different ways thieves can get a hold of information. Those thieves could be inventing the next way they plan to steal social security numbers right this moment. However, since I check my ssn so often, I can rest assured that no one has stolen my information in the recent past.
